This is us. My name is Lori, pictured with my husband (master and creator of this site) and our son, Cavan.
I was diagnosed with RA in 1996 at the age of 23. Over about 3-4 years, I failed on methotrexate and hydroxychloroquine before starting on Enbrel in 1999. For 6 years, Enbrel was my miracle drug. In 2005 I got pregnant with Cavan and stayed on Enbrel throughout my pregnancy (at a lesser dose). Cavan was born a healthy 6 pound, 4 ounce baby boy in November. About 4 weeks after his birth (still taking my Enbrel), I started to flare pretty badly. My rheumatologist was baffled by this, but I was also her first patient to remain on my meds throughout my pregnancy. I've tried to research the reason for this flare (as this tends to happen to most RA patients after delivery I'm told), but I found no good answers nor a good place to look for them. Enter my husband's "Moms with RA" website idea! I need a place to find information and hear about other people's experiences, so I hope this means that other people do too. I hope this site will be useful to more than just me. Please kick back, read, and enjoy. We are open to suggestions on improving our site to look for help and answers on questions you may have. Drop us a line! - Lori
